Things to Watch: Next 30 Days
Some potential events that we’re tracking closely which could have a market impact in the near future:
- Conflict escalation. News last week that the head of the US CIA went to Moscow to try to talk Russia down from escalating the war, along with the renewed exchange of fire in the Middle East raises the possibility of an outbreak of conflict that could disrupt markets. As an unscheduled event, this is something that is worth planning Rapid Response communications around—with the important considerations being “what will the market impact be?” and “what ideas can we provide that would be helpful?”
- AI Jenga. Another week passed and the tower still stands. But in addition to Dell (9/1), Broadcom (9/2), Snowflake (9/2), and HP (9/2) this week, next week brings a look at Oracle (9/8), which recent analysis suggests is the most wobbly block*—so the risk of less-than-stellar performance and forecasts remains. Consider Rapid Response communications raising concerns in anticipation of earnings or delivering ideas immediately after a bad announcement.* see: https://www.advisorperspectives.com/articles/2026/08/10/hidden-debt-hyperscaler-thesis-wrong
- FOMC meeting. Chair Warsh’s speech at Jackson Hole increased markets’ assessment that a rate hike in September is a possibility. But with the assessment sitting around 50/50 for a hold or an increase, Rapid Response communication planning is needed to identify what might constitute enough of a surprise that markets would react: A hold after the hawkish talk in Jackson Hole? A hike if employment data comes in worse than expected? And then, what are the solutions you can share that align with those reactions?
- Jobs. Signs of darkening consumer outlook and slowing spending didn’t faze markets, but this week’s jobs data (JOLTS on 9/1, ADP on 9/2, Challenger on 9/3, Employment report on 9/4) could. After Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech, expect a steady jobs report to trigger more certainty about a September rates raise, opening the door for Rapid Response communications highlighting the value of active management in a complex macro environment.
